Whilst the heat is set to continue, we offer the best advice for how to stay hydrated during the summer. During a heat wave, the best way to stay safe and healthy is to keep yourself cool and as hydrated as you can. Whilst we have recommended drinking water (8 cups a day at least), it is also important to replenish your water count by consuming juicy, scrumptious fruits and veggies that are packed with vitamins, electrolytes, and other great nutrients that help your body combat excessive heat this summer. Whilst the question is often asked: "how much water should I drink a day?" - there are plenty of fantastic foods to boost your hydration throughout the entire year.
Before we begin our list of ‘The Top 10 Most Water-Rich Foods that Boost Hydration’, we’d like to offer a special mention to the fantastic ‘Jelly Drops’ who have innovated hydration in care. Jelly Drops are a nutritious, healthy and easy-to-eat sweet that taste full of flavour, packed all of water. Colourful, sweet and with a water count of up to 95%, with all-natural flavours and is also gluten free, Jelly Drops fights dehydration.
Peaches are an excellent source of Vitamin A and potassium, also containing a gigantic 88% water count, making them a fantastic solution to fight dehydration. Fresh peaches are not only great for hydration, but also taste sweet, are appealing to the eye, and can come in all different forms! If you or your loved one have troubles with eating and are worried about the core (otherwise known as the ‘pip’ or ‘stone’ within a peach), you can purchase peaches that have been sliced, to ensure safety when eating.
Have you ever stopped to think about just how water-full strawberries are? Besides being loaded with vitamin C, potassium, fibre and folic acid, fresh red strawberries, beyond their amazing sweetness are full of a staggering 92% water count! Swap out those cravings like crisps and chips for a healthier alternative this summer!
Like strawberries, sweet bell peppers contain 92% water, providing rich nutrients throughout the body such as vitamin C, vitamin B, folic acid, and beta carotene. Peppers are a fantastic option to add to any meal or can be eaten alone as a healthy snack on a summer day, or after any strenuous exercise!
Cantaloupes contain a staggering 92% water content, replenishing the body with vital nutrients and fluids, such as vitamins A and C, alongside potassium as well. Almost like peaches, cantaloupes are a scrumptious snack at home, easily found in supermarkets every summer.
When we think of food and hydration, we all think of watermelon! Staggeringly, watermelon is even more hydrating than some sports drinks. With the combination of its high-water count (92%) alongside essential nutrient benefits, such as vitamins A & C, sodium, potassium and calcium, watermelon provides a delicious bounce-back combats dehydration.
Tomatoes are a fantastic source of hydration, with a water content of about 94%, fresh tomatoes (specifically Jersey Fresh) provide essential body nutrients, such as vitamin A & C, as well as potassium. Critically, tomatoes also contain an antioxidant known to aid in the fight against aging, cancer, and other diseases. Have tomatoes on their own, in a sandwich or with other greens in a scrumptious salad!
As a low-calorie, high-nutrient vegetable, zucchini ranks 4th on our list with a water content of 95%. Besides replenishing a staggering amount of hydration, zucchini provides vitamins such as A, C, folate, and potassium. It tastes fantastic fresh off the grill, or even as a part of a stir-fry!
Staggeringly, lighter lettuce contains almost 95% water, and therefore has many hydrating benefits that we should take notice of. Lettuce provides vitamin C, folic acid, and beta-carotene. Preparing a salad is quick and easy, especially in the summer, where you can even grow your own!
We are all aware of the fantastic benefits of celery! Not only does it have one of the highest water contents at a staggering 96%, but it is also packed full of nutrients and minerals that specifically aid in hydration.
At the very top of our list are cucumbers. A delicious and crunchy vegetable, cucumbers are made of 96% water and are a fantastic source of vitamin C. Cucumbers are also known to help with inflammation – they’re delicious in salads, or even as a snack!
