Another 5 Life Hacks For Older People!

More helpful and functional life hacks for older people living alone.

Introduction

As we get older, some everyday activities can become more difficult, causing frustration and in some instances pain. This is why we have gathered together 5 more tips, tricks and shortcuts for you to put into action right away that will make it easier for you to accomplish daily activities and make some tasks a bit quicker.

Shower Time

A bar of soap is probably the slipperiest item in the house, to avoid dropping it and risking a trip or slip in the tub replace your soap bars for liquid soap. What would be even better is if you fit a soap dispenser securely to the wall at the appropriate level for access and you will have removed the risk of an accident, you can also do the same for your shampoo and conditioner and eliminate those slippery bottles too!

Cleaning Organisation

You can make your cleaning products much more accessible by placing a shoe hanging rack on the back of your kitchen or pantry door and put your bleach, disinfectant spray and spare washing up liquid into the pockets. Making them easier to see as the pockets are transparent and much more easy to reach.  This also takes them out from low down under the sink which can be hard to get to if you suffer back or shoulder problems. It doesn’t have to stop at cleaning products either, you can use it for anything usually hard to reach, as long as it fits in the pockets of course!

Make The Most of Your Smartphone Camera

These days most of us have a smart phone that has a camera, you can use this handy tool to help you remember where you parked the car. Forgetfulness can happen at any time especially at huge supermarket and shopping centre car parks. Take a photo of where you parked your car, or the bay number so you can easily look it up upon your return. There are also apps available to download to help you locate your parked car. You can even use your camera and take photos of the inside of your fridge and the contents of your cupboard to see what you are already stocked up on whilst you are out shopping to eliminate over buying.

Simplify Your Keys

Do you find it hard to remember which key is for what or where? Or you just simply have too many keys. After you have had a declutter of any keys you no longer need, place coloured caps on your keys or dot a little paint or nail varnish on the top to colour code them so you can tell one key from another and save you time at your front door, gaining access much faster to your home!

Wardrobe Assistance

A stroke, arthritis or any other injury can mean buttons and zips can become difficult to fasten, installing a key ring on your coat zipper will make it much simpler to pull up and down. Obtaining a button looper (also known as a button hook) will make your life easier when trying to manipulate buttons. There are also dressing aids available like the Bra Angel, which is a for women who can only make use of one hand, or who struggle with the fiddly bra straps, so they can put a bra on with one hand and without assistance. A top tip is to plan ahead and place your belt through your trousers or skirts before you put them on, making it easier to direct the belt through the belt loops.
