Supporting Unpaid Carers in Stockport With Compassionate Respite Care

Offering unpaid carers in Stockport the chance to rest, recharge, and feel supported through our Take a Break partnership with Signpost Stockport for Carers.

Every day across Stockport, thousands of unpaid carers dedicate their time and energy to supporting loved ones — often without a moment to rest. Whether they’re caring for someone living with dementia, managing a long-term illness, or supporting a family member with mobility challenges, these carers give endlessly out of love. But even the most devoted hearts need time to breathe.

Caring can be deeply rewarding, yet it can also be demanding. Without regular rest, many carers experience exhaustion, stress, burnout, isolation, and emotional overwhelm. That’s why CareYourWay Stockport is proud to partner with Signpost Stockport for Carers to deliver the Take a Break respite care service in Stockport — a lifeline designed to offer carers the chance to recharge while knowing their loved one is in safe, compassionate hands.

What Is the Take a Break Service?

The Take a Break programme offers up to six hours of funded respite care for unpaid carers across Stockport. It’s a simple idea with a powerful purpose — giving carers time for themselves, without worry or guilt.

These hours can be used however they’re needed most. Some carers take the opportunity to attend appointments they’ve postponed. Others spend time with friends, enjoy a community event, or simply sit quietly at home with a cup of tea. Whatever they choose, it’s about giving carers permission to rest, reflect, and reconnect with their own wellbeing.

Because caring for others begins with caring for yourself.

How It Works

Carers registered with Signpost Stockport for Carers who look after someone aged 18 or over can apply for the service. Once approved, CareYourWay Stockport — as one of Signpost’s trusted partners — arranges personalised, high-quality homecare and respite support in Stockport.

Our compassionate care professionals take time to understand routines, preferences, and what truly matters most to each person. This ensures that care continues seamlessly, with warmth, respect, and companionship. For the carer, it brings something invaluable: peace of mind.

Why Carers Deserve a Break

Many unpaid carers rarely take time for themselves — often feeling guilty for stepping away or fearful of leaving their loved one’s side. But continuous caring without rest can lead to carer burnout, emotional fatigue, and declining personal health, affecting both the carer and the person they support.

Taking time to rest isn’t selfish — it’s essential. The Take a Break respite care service in Stockport empowers carers to prioritise their own health and happiness, making it possible to continue caring with energy, balance, and love.

A Partnership Built on Compassion

Through this partnership, Signpost Stockport for Carers and CareYourWay Stockport are working hand in hand to make respite care accessible to more families — from Bramhall to Bredbury, Hazel Grove to Marple, and everywhere in between, including Offerton, Romiley, Cheadle Heath, Davenport, The Heatons, and Reddish.

Together, we’re building a community where carers are seen, supported, and celebrated for all that they do.
